Progress on Summer Flowers

Good morning! I thought I would share the progress I made on these this past week. I love stitching these. I'm thinking these will be done early next week.

Remember I mentioned in my last post about a potluck at church and Pastor asked everyone to bring a big dish to pass. Well everyone did. I made a huge bowl of macaroni salad. Problem was so did 2 other people. Oh well....we had had plenty of food, and I had enough macaroni salad left over for the next 3 days, throwing away what was left. Considering there was so much macaroni salad there I was satisfied with what was taken at the potluck. We did vote on our Worship directors and they will be moving here from AZ in the next couple weeks. They want to get up here so they can get their two children in school at the start of the school year.

My niece and her husband and two boys are now in Sweden until next August. They seem to be doing okay.

One of our favorite cats at Faithful to Felines and his brother finally got adopted this past week. We are so happy for Felix and Fester, both are nice cats. Fester was the quiet, lay back one, sort of shy and that's why they wanted them adopted together, also they had been together since birth. Felix was a loveable little character. Always scratching at his room door to get out, going to anyone who would pay attention to him. He often was my little escort. He also was full of mischief and personality. We just loved him. He probably would have been adopted long ago but he and Fester had to be adopted together and not too many people want two new cats. We just hope they get all the love and attention they deserve.

Next week is a busy week as we are having Bible School at church, and plus other things will be going on so not much stitching will be done. I do hope to start a small cat piece to be sold in Sept. when we have our open house at Faithful to Felines. They asked me to do one.

Well....until next time Happy Stitching!

Summer Flowers

Good morning! I love stitching the flowers from this book. It's the same book Spring Flowers was in. This piece will go to my nephew's wife. She asked me to do a floral piece for her.

Last Sunday our Pastor announced about the potluck tonight we were having to meet the candidate for Worship Pastor at our church. He said to bring a big dish to pass not a small one. So I took him serious and made a huge bowl of macaroni salad. I told a friend who is driving me tonight not to bring anything I'd bring enough for her. (She wasn't going to go because she didn't have money to buy food tonight.) Well...when you are on a tight budget and on SS it's hard. I just hope I didn't over cook the macaroni. I don't think I did. I like the way they did it this time. They went by first letter of your last name and I was in the group to bring salads.

Last Thurs. we had a picnic and didn't have anyone sign up for anything. Only one person brought a main dish but she made a huge amount and took a lot home. Some people brought salads and other items, and about 5 of us brought deserts, 3 of us made brownines! I didn't have to take that many brownies home, (mine were frosted the other two weren't). With it I thought I'm going to have a Hotfudge Sundae brownie. It tasted good and I'll have some later today and tomorrow too. It's funny because until last year I rarely ate ice cream and only as a Hot Fudge Sundae. The last two summers I crave Hot Fudge Sundae's. I still only like it on hot summer days those. And it's only vanilla ice cream with hotfudge on top. Not any other kind of ice cream and no other topping. And once the cooler weather sets in I will not have it again until late spring. Ice cream is a summer food in my book. Are you like a food now that you never liked before and also tend to seasonalize foods. Only eat certain foods in certain seasons. Or am I just different?

Well...until next time.....Happy Stitching!

Butterfly Baby Finished

Good Afternoon! It's a beautiful summer day out there. I finished this piece earlier today. It was so much fun to stitch. So bright and cheery! It also was easy. This will go to either Love Quilts or my youngest great niece, Holly. I'll ask Holly's mother if she wants it. Now I'm doing Summer Flowers by Stoney Creek. It's from the same book Spring flowers were from and much the same colors as those. It'll go to my nephew's wife, Chrissy. She asked me to do some flowers for her.

Last Friday I got to spend the day in Rockford with my nieces, Heather and Michelle. Michelle was here from CO with her two little boys. All 4 kids were so much fun. We made cookies and I think the kids liked the cookie dough more than the cookie! I wish I could have gone up north to the cabin with all of them for the week. My sister and brother in law rented a cabin since they couldn't get a campsite like they would have preferred. Michelle, Heather, their husbands and children, and Bryan and his wife and children are all up there. Fun and noisy! Three of the children are 4 year old boys, and another boy is 5. The two girls are 7 and 1. They've been posting pictures on facebook so they are fun to see.

Well, I'm going back to stitching. Until next time.....Happy Stitching!

Off and running!

Good evening! After struggling so on the Disney Car I decided to do something easy, fun, and cheery. The colors on the Disney car were so dark and drab and so much confetti stitching drove me crazy. This piece is by Stoney Creek and for being Stoney Creek is fast and easy. I've worked on it about 12 hours and just about half done. I like these babies. I may do one other one right after this one is done. Then I'll see if I can find the seasonal flower book and do summer flowers from it. I'm doing easy pieces for the rest of this month. In Aug. I'll pick up America again.

I am looking forward to seeing my nieces and their children tomorrow. Right now I'm nervous about my brother's car making it but I know once we get on the road I'll laugh at how silly my fears are. I always do.

Also tomorrow another niece, Melissa, is being induced. The baby isn't due until Aug. but something in her blood work made them want to induce tomorrow. It's only a couple weeks early as she is due Aug.4. So much for my brother hoping he would be born on his birthday. Melissa and John have Johnny 8 and Katelyn 5. They also have a 6 year old foster daughter who they hope to adopt. This baby is a boy. It just seems like yesterday I posted that Johnny was born and he's 8 now! Man time goes by fast!

Well....until next time Happy Stitching!

One last update on Doc Hudson

The finish line is finally in sight! I should have this finished Wed. morning. Maybe tomorrow afternoon but I doubt it. It has taken 7 weeks and over 150 hours. Usually I lay a piece down after a month but I was afraid to lay this down for fear of not picking it back up.

This week my niece and her family will be coming to MI. They will be moving to Sweden for a year. Both are college professors and the get Sabatical every 7 years. Their best friends live in Sweden so they chose to do their research in Sweden. My sister is having a hard time with not being able to see her daughter and grandchildren for a whole year. She's use to flying out to CO every 3 or 4 months to see them. Friday I get to see them for the day. I can't wait yet will be sad. Although I only see them once a year (usually for 3 or 4 days though not just one) it's hard to know they are going to Sweden so far away! I wonder if Michelle and Scott will take the boys into Finland while they are there. Finland is where our dad's family is from. They'll be at my niece's in Rockford for the weekend before the whole family heads up north for a week. Michelle's husband, Scott will join them at the cabin, he's tying up loose ends in CO over the weekend. From here they'll see Scott's mother for a few days then fly off to Sweden.

I volunteer at a cat shelter near here and this past weekend we had an incident. Fortunately it ends happily. I had the cats in my room in the hallway to let them run in the big room and go in the courtyard outside. (It's all enclosed). I happened to look into the big room and here are my cats on the other side of the place where they are not allowed. A new volunteer said she left the door open to let the cats out. Here the front door and back door are wide open. Fortunately I was able to grab another volunteer, and got 3 of the cats before they got outside. Then I was a basket case, went looking for the charge person and her daughter, told them what happened. They went outside to help the other volunteer. All but one cat were retrieved. But one cat ran into the woods. But this morning she was found and brought back to the shelter. I was so relieved. I felt terrible that it had happened.

Well...until next time Happy Stitching!

More Progress on Doc Hudson Disney Car

This piece is moving slowly. I'm getting anxious to get it done but I have at least a week of stitching perhaps longer. Now that it's getting a personality I am enjoying seeing it come to life. This will possibly go to my great nephew Wyatt. He's 5 1/2 so we'll see. If not then I have several great nephews younger than him.

Lately I have gotten into my garden. I've never had a garden before and while this is small as I rent and only have a small area to work in I plan to get as many flowers I can get in. I've dug out the weeds and got rid of the uglies. (Well that's what I called them they were throughout the garden and I hated them. They were wild daisies and I had them all over. Fortunately they came up very easily.) My sister bought me a few flowers, my sister-in-law brought over some from her garden. There will still be more to plant. Next week my sister-in-law and I will go get some more flowers and that should do it for now. In the fall the annual flowers will be dug up and I'll replace them with some that come up every year. I had to get rid of the rose bushes because for one thing I was allergic to them, and another the bugs ate the leaves. Some other wild flowers also went into the garbage. I basically just kept some of the lilies and my sister in law took some, and the two Holly Hocks. I want more of those they are beautiful! Perhaps in the fall when these die I'll take a couple of seeds and plant some more. So this garden is turning out to be mine and what I like, not what the lady before me had.

My sister was here for a 3 day weekend last week. We got a whole lot done. Even managed to go to Jo Ann's for some floss. We worked in the garden. Sat. was her grandson's birthday party with family so we went to Rockford to her son-in-law's mothers house. She lives on a lake. The kids played in the water, adults just visited. We went on a boat ride on the pattoon boat. That was fun. So it was a really nice day. It was a great weekend really.

Well....I'm going to go back to stitching. Until next time Happy Stitching!
